HAMLET

Hamlet, the Prince of Denmark, is distraught when his father dies. When the ghost of the older Hamlet appears to tell his son that he was murdered, the shock waves set in a motion a deadly chain of events. The old king has been murdered by his own brother, Claudius, who has then seized the throne and married Hamlet’s mother Gertrude. Hamlet sets a trap for Claudius and once he knows that the new king is definitely guilty plans to get revenge. At the same time, the young Hamlet undergoes stresses and strains in his relationships with both his mother and his girlfriend Ophelia, who is the daughter of Claudius’s minister Polonius. Both Ophelia and Polonius die in tragic circumstances, realising that Hamlet is becoming increasingly dangerous, Claudius plots with Ophelia’s brother, Laertes, to do away with Hamlet once and for all.




Cyprus, the Island that lies at the farthest Eastern end of the Mediterranean sea; the Island that is the legendary birthplace of the goddess of love, Aphrodite; the Island that is home to an 8000 year old civilisation at Choirokoiti near the modern commercial port of Limassol and also an Island full of Internationally renowned Heritage sites. One of the most spectacular archaeological sites on the island is the ancient site known as The Kourion. This was an important city kingdom where excavations continue to reveal impressive new treasures and it is noted in particular for its magnificent Greco - Roman Theatre.

Originally built in the 2nd century B.C., Kourion’s awe - inspiring theatre is now fully restored and used for musical and theatrical performances annually.

Every year, in June, a production of one of Shakespeare’s plays is performed by local amateur actors for the benefit of the Cypriot and every growing ex-pat communities that chose to make Cyprus their home, with all profits going to local charities. In 2019, the group, known as “Shakespeare at Curium” are proud to present their production of Hamlet.
